Dear Serve the City volunteers,  

We have two projects that are in need of help.!!.

For immediate attention: The Salvation Army has created a safe place for the homeless in cooperation with the Protestant Church in Paquis.  They are requesting help to feed the homeless each night from 21h30 à 23h30.   They are currently looking for the following helpers:

  • 1 person each Saturday thru 30 June(starting tomorrow)
  • 1 person each Sunday night thru 1 July
  • 2 persons each Monday thru 2 July
  • 2 persons on Tuesday evenings thru 28 June 

French is helpful but not required..   If you are interested to fill one of the 6 time slots, you may start right away on any of the days still available! Please sign up on the STC website: ServeTheCityGeneva.ch

    Our Next project is a request is from the Challandes Zoo in Bellevue.  The zoo is taking on a new beautification project and making room for some new Aviaries.  They would like about a dozen helpers to clear some areas of rubbish into a tip container.   The event is planned for Saturday 21 April, to start at 9 thru early afternoon (or times that suit you..)   Also sign up on the website.

Here is the original Salvation Army request to the Geneva community..

Bonjour à tous !    

Le 3 avril 2018, l’Accueil de Nuit  de l’Armée du Salut avec le soutien de l’Espace Solidaire Pâquis et l’Eglise Protestante de Genève, a ouvert une Halte de Nuit au Temple de Pâquis (Rue de Berne 49). 

Cette Halte de Nuit, est un lieu d’accueil inconditionnel sans condition d’accès, pour toutes les personnes sans domicile à Genève. 
La Halte de Nuit est ouverte 7 jours sur 7 de 22h30 à 6h30. Les personnes accueillies peuvent y trouver accueil, chaleur humaine et sécurité. Une soupe et des collations sont offertes aux personnes accueillies. 

Pour apporter du soutien aux travailleurs sociaux qui travaillent dans ce lieu, nous sommes à la recherche de bénévoles engagés, prêts à s’investir pour les plus démunis à Genève en servant les repas. 

Nous avons besoin de 2 bénévoles tous les soirs de 21h30 à 23h30.

What’s up with Serve the City and calendar for information

Dear Serve the City Geneva Volunteers,
 
We have number of events in the planning stages for the next few months. Hopefully we can find something to interest you.
Before we go any farther, if you have changed location, are unable to participate anymore or no longer wish to be on the mailing list please reply with REMOVE now. We wish you every success in your new area of public service.
 
BELOW ACTIVITY FOR THE 26TH POP UP DINNER
 IS CURRENTLY FULLY BOOKED..  THANKS FOR YOUR QUICK REPLY… 
 
We have two open events at the moment: one is for those interested participating  in the Montbrillant soup kitchen about twice a month from May to July (or being on standby). The other event is on Monday 26 March, when we need two additional volunteers to work at the soup kitchen for a pop-up dinner (details below). The job is to assist in food preparation, serve the guests and clean up. 
 
March 2018
 
– Monday 26: Montbrillant Soup Kitchen – not actually a soup kitchen this time but a POP-UP gourmet dinner for the needy.
       Walter, our gourmet chef, and several of his cooking friends are planning a special meal for the customers of the soup kitchen. Two seatings of 50 people each, at 18h00 and 19h30 at the Jardin de Montbrillant.
He needs 4 volunteers to help prep and serve from 15h. Servers will learn how to make homemade pasta.
We also need help with decoration of the hall. Apply at the Current Activities page on our website.
 
EXCEPT FOR THE SOUP KITCHEN — SIGN UPS 
WILL BE OFFERED ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO EACH EVENT (Once confirmed)

– Friday 1: Friday early-bird Partage collection at  – 5 stores ( not confirmed )
 
– Saturday 2: Samedi du Partage – 5 stores, 50 volunteers, 8h – 18h (split into 3 shifts)
 
– Thursday 7: Partage sorting – 10 volunteers each day for 9 days, 8h to 12h
 
– Friday 8 : Partage sorting
 
July 2018

Our team have done a fantastic job..

So good in fact that we have nothing to do next week?!   Sorry to those who were looking for an opportunity to serve but let it be known that the Partage staff is overjoyed with our contribution this year. And me too!!    what a great time we have had and a great service to the community we have done.. The staff at Partage are amazing, they work so hard to feed 1,000 of the folks down on their luck every day.. and they do such a great job of it..    Now to research our next target of assistance..

Opportunity knocks !!!

A special message of Happy New Year to all of you who have a special heart for all those less fortunate or have come on hard times.  We are so encouraged by the 1600 volunteers who are ready to take time out of their busy schedules to help those in need.
And theySTC team is privileged to be part of putting those who want to contribute, with those who have needs !
 The Partage food collection was very large this year and they have ask STC if we could provide more help to assist their current helpers the last two weeks of Jan.   They have requested 5 people a day for 15, 17, & 19 Jan (Mon,Wed & Fri)  and the following week and 23 & 25 (Tues & Wed).   Signups are registered thru the Get Involved option on the http://ServeTheCityGeneva.ch website.
Sign in and signup for open events..  When we reach 5 entries the event will be closed and you will not see it on the event list.
The sorting takes place at the Partage warehouse in Carouge from 8am to Noon, and we often are invited for lunch.   It would be wonderful to fill the openings quickly.
    Another weekday offer of service is our soup kitchen project.  On Tuesdays , twice a month, STC provides 7 volunteers to help prepare, serve and clean up for about 200 hot meals offered to those in need.  We have a very special group of current volunteers but could periodically use additional support.  Signup again on the website while spots last..
   Serve the City is looking for a very special year of finding and helping those service organizations who do such a great job for others  24/7. We consider it a very honored position to help those who help others.
Serve the City Team wishes you volunteers all the very best for the coming year, either with STC or just helping your community.
