We thank you for signing up with Serve the City Geneva !! We appreciate your interest in serving the community.

Our records indicate that some of you have been receiving our newsletters for long time but have not yet participated in any activity. If you have moved or just want to be taken off the mailing list please reply w/ Subject: REMOVE, right now. No explanation required.

A special thanks to all those who have signed up to help at TheMeal this Saturday. It should be a great day!

We would like to meet you and give you more information on what STC does and who we work with. Why not join us and say hello to the STC team at the BBQ on 28 Sept. at 11ish.. We will have an introduction to some of the projects we are currently working on and would like to provide you with an introduction to the International side of STC and our future plans. Please stop by, as we would be more than happy to see you and talk to you about serving. If you have friends or family members who would like to eat with us, that would be just wonderful. Many of our volunteers will be there with their red shirts on to welcome you.

Do Save the Date! Saturday 28 Sept. to be held at the Carrefour Rue Gardens, Rue Baulacre 10, quite near to Cornavin. Start 11 o’clock.

Besides the Bellevue project. We have service options with the Salvation Army. We have a couple of projects with the handicapped kids at Clair Bois. The Partage food collection is coming up soon and lots of help will be appreciated for this fantastic program to provide food and essentials for hundreds of the needy.

THE MEAL:

An annual event – The Meal, takes place on the same day around the world; supporting local farmers and fisherfolk to promote local produce to sustain local producers and economies. The Meal event this year will be on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Plainpalais.

STC Geneva needs urgent sign-ups. Please visit the STCG Website today and put your name in for the activity you can volunteer for

Wednesday, 4 September.
Voix Libres,

It would be amazing if you can help us with 10-15 volunteers. From 9 am to 4 pm at any time.
Voix Libres, an institution that supports orphans and single moms in Bolivia, is sending a container of quinoa and handmade goods to Geneva for distribution. We would like volunteers to help move the products into the warehouse.

Saturday, 7 September 9h00 to 13h00

Carrefour Rue, who runs the Mt. Brilliant soup kitchen, also has a clothes distribution facility called Aboudaby. They need a few hours of your time to sort donated clothing, ideally 10 volunteers. Hope you are able to signup for this event!

Starting Thursday 5 September the Salvation Army afternoon Hospitality coffee service

Various standby replacement dates;
Wednesday, September 4 and Friday, September 6 (replacement help) 14:30-17:00 to prepare coffee, serve coffee, storage and cleaning.

Lighthouse Day Shifts (14:30-17:00) need volunteers for below shifts to help with coffee, storage and cleaning.

  • All Thursday in September and months beyond from 14:30 to 17:00   
  • Wednesday, September 4, from 14:30 to 17:00
  • Friday, September 6 from 14:30 to 17:00

Lighthouse Evening Shifts (17: 30-20:00, Monday to Friday) need volunteers for below shifts to help with table-setting, serving, cleaning and dishwashing.

  • Starting from 2 September, every Monday to Friday from 17h30 to 20h00  
  • This is an ongoing project. If possible, regular participation will be much appreciated (for example, every Monday in September, first week of September etc.)

The Lighthouse is located on 3 Rue Jean-Jacques-de-Sellon, 1201 Genève.

The Meal at Plainpalais.

Will feed about 2,000 people who come to see the International fair to support local farmers, items effecting the environment and protection of the planet.

Setting up tables and benches – 07:30 -08:30 – 10 Volunteers

Lunch Service Group 1 11:30 – 13:45 – 15 Volunteers per session

Lunch Service Group 2 13:45 – 15:00 – 15 Volunteers per session

Clearing up 15:30 onwards – 10 volunteers l

August Newsletter

Dear STC volunteers,

Quick decision time… This coming weekend !! Saturday 24 August, 9 to 1! Come join us !! on a major cleanup project in Versoix sponsored by Parc Challandes, the Zoo in Bellevue. bring your own lunch.. A quick introduction to the Zoo, some new things that are happening, and introduction of current major concerns of endangered species in Switzerland, a quick look at ProWildlife@home then off to the Versoix river to do a cleanup campaign.

The park has suggested we share the following web sites to all the Serve the City volunteers to help with what we all may do to help the environment.

ESCA Paddle for CancerSupport

Dear volunteers,

For several year STC has been supporting the Dragon Boat festival in various ways, from parking management , kid control, mini boat races, library sales.. etc Now is your chance to be supportive of a great program at a wonderful location at Lac de Joux above Gland.

For assignments contact Chris Swan as she it responsible for volunteers.

STC has been given a special list of various areas to see where we could best use some help.

They are as follows:

Set Up

  • Saturday 31 August 2019; 10h00 – 17h00
  • helping put the various tents, signs, toilets etc., etc. in place on the day before the festival
  • some heavy lifting is required
  • four volunteers or more

Clear Away

  • Sunday 1 September 2019; end Festival (around 16h00) – till it’s done
  • closing down the Festival, ensuring the area is litter free, packing up the tents, taking down signs etc., etc…
  • some heavy lifting is required
  • four or more volunteers

Boat Marshall

  • Sunday 1 September; 08h30 – 16h00 – can be half a day or the full day
  • helping to load and disembark the teams fro the Dragon Boats
  • comfortable with water and masses of humans are probably the key skills required
  • four volunteers

Helping out at the Serve the City Stand passing out brochures and giving info.

Guarding the Walkway round KiddieLand

  • Sunday 1 September 2019; 10h00 – 16h00; one hour shifts in pairs
  • stopping the kids at KiddieLand escaping onto public land
  • up to six volunteers – if fewer than six then the pairs will be rotated to cover the day
