Serve The City Geneva

The Meal

(28.08.2017)

Farmers and fishermen are the only providers of our food for life. Do we want to support our local producers or fatten international companies that crush down into poverty whole populations on every continent, poison the people, the oceans, the soil and the very air we breathe? The responsibility is in our hands.

In September 1999, when the association Un Repas Pour Notre Avenir was founded, the event that we set up in Geneva crystalized the desire to support educational projects that would become part of an international network of skills. This event attracted thousands, and was a success with its 1400 meters long table around the lakeside in central Geneva, bringing together all kinds of partners and friends involved in making a better world …

This year the event is on Saturday, September 23 in Plainpalais, The Meal will attract nearly 2000 guests and is running on the same day as in many other countries around the world. Money raised from the event goes to support social projects

Serve The City Geneva, will be supporting the event through volunteering at The Meal. Meal setup to serving and eventual cleanup.

STC has already has sign-ups fort the event but we are short of volunteers  The day is divided in 3 phases:

1 – Meal Setup at 10:30 am
2 – Serving from 11:30 am
3 – Clean up.from 4:45 pm

We have enough volunteers for Meal setup, What we need is support for serving and clean up.
So all you registered on STC Geneva – come on join in and bring your friends along.  Register for volunteering on the Website. http://www.ServeTheCityGeneva.ch

This weekend , Sunday  Lac de Joux ,  Dragonboat Races,   Paddle for Cancer  Do come!!

On 3 September on Lake de Joux France we are looking for volunteers to help with Dragon Boat races.

Paddle for Cancer is an  annual cancer awareness and fundraising event and brings together both the local and international communities to work together to help cancer patients and their loved ones directly.  Cancer awareness is vital and can bring hope to what seems like an insurmountable challenge. The ESCA, the English Speaking Cancer Association which provides emotional and practical support in English to all cancer sufferers and their families, in the Geneva, Vaud and neighbouring French regions. For your information, our website addresses are: www.cancersupport.ch and www.paddleforcancer.ch

As well as help for the set-up (2 Sept.) and clear-away of the event, we also need help during the festival on the Saturday 3 of September to help with boat marshalling, the Mini Regatta and also in Kiddieland. And even help with a STC information table..

Please signup on the Get Involved page of the STC website.

Many Thanks for your quick replies.    The STC team.

Serve The City options

This week we had our first Partage Sorting day and we had a great time.. moved a lot of product and already goods are being distributed.

On Monday morning from 8-12 we could use a few more helpers if you could stop by the warehouse in Carouge and again we are short for the following week Wednesday 5 July.

On Saturday we could use an extra hand or two either with a little gardening work at Ronald McDonald house Champell or some painting work at a good friend of the Salvation Army.

Both projects are 9:30 am jobs, signup online and for more details on McDonald email Info@ServetheCityGeneva.ch and for the painting job Kevin at kpo1213@gmail.com

Our website lists some other up & coming events..

Thanks for your help tomorrow &/or Monday..

After Partage

Many many thanks for such a great job on Saturday. The total results are not in yet but Serve the City did a great job at the five stores under our concern. We had about 45 volunteers during the day and, thanks to the generosity of the shoppers of Geneva, we collected a great deal of food for those less fortunate.

On the downside, we did have high number of no-shows for the various time slots. This puts a heavy burden on the ones who do come to help, on the organizers who have to try to fill empty slots and on the stores that have given time and space to feed the needy. If any of you feel you may fall into the no-show category as you cannot really commit, it might be better to remove yourself from the mailing list as STC is trying to serve with reliable dependable, consistency. Many thanks again.

Many thanks to our volunteers at Voix Libres !

We then jump to Thursday 22 June for the first of our five days of sorting the 140 tons of food just collected.

On Saturday 24 June, we are looking for 4-5 gardeners to bit a clearing at the Ronald McDonald apartments..

Jumping to Wednesday 28 June, we are helping out at a party for disabled kids at the Clair Bois centre in Lancy.

A Painting party at a partner of the Salvation Army who could use some freshing up.. 28 June

We then have an outdoor conservation activity with A Rocha on Saturday 15 July.

We are also looking for help to set up other events for Nelson Mandela day in mid-July , and we have a couple of events in September. We could use help with a project leader for the annual Paddle for Cancer DragonBoat Festival, which will be taking place on the first weekend of September at the Lac de Joux Project Leader filled, but event very open, not to mention that STC has been asked to help serve 2000 lunches on Saturday 23 Sept at TheMeal.ch

Other projects will also be coming up so keep checking. We love to have you book early, but PLEASE, if things change and you can’t make it, do let us know! This is essential in order for us to make alternative arrangements and ensure that we can honour our commitments to our partners, and most importantly so that we don’t let the beneficiaries down.
Thank you and best regards
